i purchased this western digital 250gb 16mb cache in dec06...and im very unhappy with its performance..
1) copying files involving it make my cpu usage 99%+
2) playing video that's recorded from fraps damn laggy, while my other wd80gb play it smoothly
3) everytime i boot computer disk scan on the disk is being ran
4) sometimes my pc couldnt boot and stuck before entering windows..remove the HDD then no more problem

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ s939
Gigabyte K8NF-9
2x1GB Corsair ddr400
Acbel 450w truepower
his x1950pro
wd 80gb + 250gb
this is picture of its performance using HDTach

Whoa, something's wrong there. I have a WD 320GB Caviar SE 16MB cache SATA and it runs waaay smoother than the 60 gig in my old Dell. Try some diagnostic tools or even defraging. You definately have a problem because I have a Hitachi 60Gig right here in my build and I can tell the difference just opening pictures or word documents.

Check device manager and make sure the drive isn't running in PIO mode. It should be DMA mode.

Definately something wrong there. Here's mine.

thanks
after months of not knowing the reasons/blaming the hdd i found out it's because of the PIO mode that slows down the transfer rate
although i actually found the solution before reading your post, thanks anyway.
i now get 130mb/s, probably because not running in sata 2 im not getting 170mb/s
!
