I have a brief idea of parts...

Gigabyte 945PL-S3 Conroe
99

E4300
235

2G Kit(2x1G) A-DATA 800
225

Seagate SATA 250G
99

256MB 7300GS Gigabyte
83

16x Pioneer 111D
45

We are reusing these parts from old PC
Monitor, Floppy Drive, CD-RW Drive.

Im not sure about the Video Card because there will be no real gaming on it, only real use will be for connecting to our HDD camcorder, occasional Video Editing, Some Photoshop work too and also lots of surfing etc.

Really would like to keep the price down as much as i can. If you can see anyway to reduce the price please suggest them. Thanks.

my e-retailer is http://www.msy.com.au

Thanks.

If you want to overclock, that board is not good. At least a GA-965P-S3 or better yet DS3.

What's the output of the camcorder, composite, s-video, usb or firewire?

err i think its usb, not sure tho. mm yeh i think i will go for that choice of mobo u mentioned since i am getting one of them for my pc u helped me with other week lol~ this one is families.

btw regarding me other build, i have found 2 x 2GB RAM sticks.

http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=4GB+ddr2 - this is the link and its about the 5th item down. will that fit the GA-965P-S3? or shoould i spend extra and get the one below it?

Yes, the 4 gigs will work with this mobo. S3, DS3, DS4 & DQ6 let you change ram settings in bios. In other words, you can install ANY ddr2 ram. Worst case scenario is you use another stick of ram to boot & set up bios's ram settings before putting in ram that can't boot out of the box.

For the budget build in this thread, get this instead:

64MB MSI 6200TC upto 256MB (Victoria Clayton Branch Only)
25

Basically, even onboard video is fine for 2d graphics. My family's pc is used for the same things you listed. No games. Everything else. Digital photography & some video. Onboard video. 2 gigs of ram. AMD. LCD 17".

Asus P5VDC-MX All-In-One
64

or

Gigabyte 965P-S3

Antec T.P.3 Trio 430W (32A)

Make absolutely sure the Asus P5VDC-MX is PCB 2.0 or later for C2D support. Should be printed on a label on the box or next to the model number on top of the yellow ram slots on the mobo.

With this AGP board, there'll be no way to upgrade to PCI-E video. If the buyer ever games, they'll have to buy an AGP video.

If they go with S3 + PCI-E video, then they can upgrade to anything.

If the monitor has only DVI input, forget the ASUS mobo. Get the S3 & ask the store if the video has DVI output. Should have. Usually, 1 VGA, 1 DVI & 1 TV.

the monitor we already got is a proview 19" lcd widescreen.

im gonna go with the 7100gs simply because 30aud extra is nothing really. its like 13GBP.
also the pc will most probably using vista of some description - most likely the home premium.

do u have any sugggestions for a case? it doesnt have to be anything special really , also if the case comes with a psu, should it be fine? ther are no real intentions for hardcore overclocking as such.

edit -
and for my personal build (http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=223123&highlight=) - i will probably get the 4GB PC2-4200 DDR2-533 Kit for $au410.
it is the best price ive came across so far.
and the psu.. will i be safe getting a coolermaster extreme 600w? or something else a little cheaper than the ocz one?
