I am in the immediate market for a new bedroom tv.
I have poor vision & the current 27" direct view model we have in our
bedroom is just too small - I can watch it fine but when I hit guide
on remote to see what is on, I cant read the guide from bed. My bed is
a good straight 12' - 16' from the TV.
I was at a friends recently & they had in their living room a Sony
Rear Projection LCD - at first I thought it was a plasma but then
looked closer & saw it is deeper than a plasma but not as deep as my
old Hitachi Ultravision 50" Projection in my family room.
Well,..... the pic on that Sony was nice & I looked at it in the
store. Model Sony KF42WE610. In the store it was around $2600 but I
see it online for $2200 +/-.
I see some mention of bulb problems with this unit, but I think that
is all resolved, and as far as longevity I hear you may need to
replace a bulb in 5 years for a cost of $300 +/-.
Then there is the plasma option.... but in my budget of around $2000,
I think all I can get are cheap, low resolution models. They wont be
HDTV (not that I think I care) - but more importantly - I hear that a
plasma will last at most probably 10 years - doesnt seem like a good
bang for buck although I love the look.
Then there is the thin panel LCD option - Searching online it seems
biggest I can get is maybe a 30" on my budget for around $2000 - maybe
I can squeez a 32" on my budget.
