win 2k - Perfoming Final Task Error

I there... I've been locked out of my PC unable to retrieve
any of my files, I had XP which constantly came up with a
blue screen, so I tried 2000 setup - during the performing
final tasks the - Registers components refuses to finish,
and this came up (Program Error grpconv.exe has generated
errors and will be closed by windows. restart the program
etc.) Does anyone knows how to fix this or what's wrong? I
haven't formatted my HD has yet. Are all my data lost will
I be able to get any?
