I'd like to buy a cable modem and would like to know what are the usual recommandations ?
I was looking at the Motorola SurfBoard SB5100, is that a good one ?

Motorola SB5100 is good. A cable modem is a cable modem basically. The SB5100 has a standby button on it to cut your connection out for safety, but doesn't drop it completely. I use it and I haven't had a problem.
The newer verisons are great, the original 5100 had a problem with its firmware, but a simple update fixed that. They're no longer released with that firmware version so its a good and safe buy.
Off www.Bandwidth.com I can pull 3.1 Megabytes, www.cnet.com 2900-3100 on their rating. The cable modem functions perfectly for me, including large file downloads, gaming, streaming video, etc.
