Good job. :p
For 26 though, you probably mean 7600 GS instead of GST.
March 5, 2007 1:41:22 AM

thats fucking retarded ati hasn't even released their offering yet, you fucking moron.
March 5, 2007 1:43:59 AM

i noticed it doesn't have the x1950xt listed, so its possible that there are other cards missing
March 5, 2007 1:44:29 AM

Looks like the 9800 Pro in my old computer isn't as bad as I expected. Still, to see that my X1900 XTX Toxic down at 7th place, sixth really since the X2800 XTX isn't out, well, I don't know whether to feel good or bad.
March 5, 2007 1:59:10 AM

The Geforce3 should be higher than the Geforce3 Ti200...., and both should be higher the the FX 5200, unless of course they're referring to the 128bit model.

you forgot the X2800XT ( XT not XTX )
and GTO (XL )
March 5, 2007 2:12:03 AM

looks about right, but until Tom's tests the R600 the 8800GTX is #1

BTW, here's the actual list, Gizmodo couldn't compile this list on their own they barely get their own name right.

http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/54675-g...

IMO some edits are in order.
(funny after looking at his latest list it seems to be different from yours, his edits match some of my suggestions 8) but others are still off IMO. He also replace the X1900GT with the X1950GT which is the only one I think is still too high [not sure if he realizes the X1950GT core is slower than the X1900GT although it can be OC'ed])

Quote:
15) X1900GT
16) 7800GTX 512MB
17) X1800XT

Those seem pretty back to front. At worst the GTX-512 and X1800XT would tie and both would beat the X1900GT. Which at stock is faster than the missing X1950GT. I'd say that order goes 16, 17, 15. GTX512>X1800XT>X1900GT.

I think their list is based on a small sample of tests.

Quote:

25) 7600GT
26) 7600GST
27) X1650XT

I'd reverse that portion to as the X1650XT usually outperforms the GF7600GT and with more features.

Quote:

68) TI4800
69) TI4600
70) 9600XT
71) TI4800SE
72) 5700Ultra
73) 9500Pro
74) 9800SE 128bit
75) X600
76) 9600Pro

This whole section is messed up, The R9500Pro more often than not outperforms the R9600XT, and even the R9600Pro outperforms the whole GF4ti series (unless the GF4 is running at lower IQ), no chance a GF4 outruns an R9500P, just ask GW. And in current titles the R9600P outperforms the FX5700U, only with partial precision are they even close.

Quote:
77) TI4400
78) 9500
79) 6600LE
80) X1300SE
81) 5700
82) 9600

The plain R9600 outpaced the plain R9500, performance went R9500P>R9600XT>R9600P>R9600>R9500.

Quote:
83) 6200
84) TI4200
85) 5600
86) 5600XT
87) 9600SE
88) 9550

9550 is better than all those (unless you mod some GF6200s into GF6600s) and the FX5600 is better than the GF4ti4200 often, and the FX5600U Revision1 and Revision2 are missing from the list. I'd put them just below the FX5700s and the R9550.

95) 8500Pro
96) GeForce3 TI500
97) 8500
98) 8500LE
99) 5200Ultra

The FX5200U despite all it's flaws was faster than the GF3 and the R8500LE-R9000P due to raw speed boosts often finding itself in the GF4ti4200 range, and they all perform in the DX8 realm so no DX9 v DX8 consideration (although the FX is capable and playable with DX8.1 while the GF4 and below are not). Also, the plain 8500 is faster than the R9000P & R9200P, I don't know of an R8500P.

Everything below that really is just a fight for last place IMO.
March 5, 2007 5:30:59 AM

At least my old VooDoo2 card made the list, even if it was 129th..
March 5, 2007 6:28:30 AM

Woot! My 8800gtx came in 2nd. :D  When the 8950gtx comes out, the 8950gtx will be number 1.
March 5, 2007 7:38:54 AM

Where is my old PCI 4MB S3 Virge ?

I overclocked that card's memory from 60 to 70MHz, and it could run Moto Racer 1 @ 640x480 with D3D turned on! (lol)

My Voodoo 3 is #123
My GeForce 4 MX 440 is #108, even though that does not take into account the HUGE overclock I managed on that card. From the default 275/400 I cranked it up to 420/570 :D

My 7600GT isn't doing too bad, #25, and if we take out #1, it will be #24.

I wonder where the upcoming GeForce 8600 Ultra will come in....
March 5, 2007 8:04:49 AM

I don't agree with alot of these! This can be missleading to buyers.

ie. says: 7600Gt and 1650 XT is better then x850 XT/PE......just one of many examples.
March 5, 2007 8:26:39 AM

Cool.. my older cards managed positions 130,126,108,69 ...after that i switched to workstation cards so....

March 5, 2007 10:11:35 AM

Your link is more accurate IMO. But I still think this is all messed up:

7800GS
X1800GTO
X1650XT
7600GT
X850XT/XTPE
X800XT/XTPE
6800Ultra/EE

It's hard to rank those, but the X800XT and X800XTpe as well as the X850XT/XTPE should not be lumped together. X800XT would be last in that bunch, all the others are hard to rank. From my own 5 game testing last week, more often than not an X800XTPE edges out the X1650XT even. I felt the X800XTPE did beat the 6800U, at least in most games I have enjoyed. Then again, you really need to think all games overall, which makes these near equal cards hard to stack. The X850XTPE beat the 7800GS in Anand's review way back, yet it's lumped in with the plain XT and put below 4 cards. The X850XTPE would be at/near the top spot in my ranking. Of course I am talking in raw performance, not which I'd buy.

And it does seem silly even having R600 in there. What's up with that?
March 5, 2007 10:16:06 AM

Missed out my first ever video card, the powerVR. Came bundled with a cut down version of the original Tomb Raider...Showing my years. :?

True, gf3 has higher clocks than a gf3ti200, although you can oc it quite a lot. I owned 2 gf3ti200, one 64 mb and the other 128mb, and both of them where exelent overclockers, they did oced higher than gf3ti 500 clocks. I found this card remarcable for its huge longevity, as it can still run some recent games, with low settings but common, it's from the beginning of 2001.
I was able to run Fear on that gf3ti200 oced 128mb on a athlon xp 2700+ with 512mb ddr, and Prey on a Thunderbird 1.33ghz with 1gb ddr. It runned like crap, nevertheless its incredible it did even run.
Ah, and i've heard of a patch to make oblivion run on this card as well. If i remember correctly, they clamed it runned somewhat playable, with really low settings.

I have #74, #116, #121 and a matrox marvel (not listed) lol.. time for an upgrade :(
March 5, 2007 1:02:02 PM

The only thing I disagree with mainly is the 7950GX2 beating the 8800GTS. And the fact the the x850xtpe should be closer to the 7800
March 5, 2007 1:15:26 PM

Too bad the list is misinformation (x2800) and missing come creditable gaming video cards such as Creative's Banshee Blaster 16, the Matrox Millennium G400/450 dual head.

Ah, so you recomend this list be based on speculation and what cards are likely to perform (likely being a vague term).

We then should add

9800

By "Creative's Banshee Blaster 16" you mean the 3dfx voodoo banshee? Because that one was on the list.
March 5, 2007 1:49:50 PM

Voodoo's banshee and Creative's were not the same card.
March 5, 2007 1:55:01 PM

But..same 3dfx chip right?
March 5, 2007 2:00:15 PM

Well I cant recall from memory, but I believe there were significant differences between them. I could be wrong though.

I played Sof2, quake 2, ST Armada.... with the G400 from Matrox. Great technology for it's time. Too bad they dont compete in the 3d word any longer.

PowerVR was not a card, but a technology. You're probably referring to the Apocalypse 3D.

I had the Matrox M3D, Kyro I and Kyro II. Great cards, I still miss them once in a while.
March 5, 2007 2:49:56 PM

I may have an extra if you want to buy it.

You forgot the XT8238948959283433553546345661XTXXX. Not only does it have the highest number, but it ALSO has more Xs added onto the end than any other card. It has to take the top.
March 5, 2007 2:56:41 PM

Nice list overall. As stated some edits need to be but a nice list non the less. :)

Wasn't the 5950 faster/better than a 9700pro btw? About that time is when I started messing with "trying" to buy a video card and never could make up my friggen mind. hehe :)
March 5, 2007 3:00:31 PM

But I heard ATI is coming out with the:
XT8238948959283433553546345661XTXXXXXXXXXXXTX Ultra

Since it clearly is even larger then their previous declared, yet unreleased product, it should be #1, outperforming even then mighty NVidia 235089273095283095 GT

March 5, 2007 4:08:44 PM

I see a lot of nvidia cards in the wrong place, this isn't even something you can really do anyways, a lot of the nvidia cards get higher frame rates but with poor quality. I'm sure if you turn down all the features on a 1950xtx to resemble the quality of a 7950GX2 you'd get the same frame rates... its a matter of personal taste with the 7000 series, do you want quality or a few extra fps?
March 5, 2007 4:11:23 PM

thought they were naming it X2900XTX not X2800XTX... anyway even if its almost safe to say that the r600 should outperform the 8800GTX (7-8 months after the release of the 8800gtx, thats the least one can expect). I'd wait for benchmarks before compiling a list like this

The GF4 Ti cards are indeed DX8.1. Were you thinking on the GF3 series?

Also, the GF3 Ti500 performs much in the range of the GF4 Ti4200, so it's not out of line to consider the 5200 U to be at or below the performance of a Ti500.

We've had a heiarchy on this board for months, in the "best cards for the money thread"... :p

Now including integrated and laptop chipsets, even!

March 5, 2007 5:58:13 PM

nice list cleeve, although there are a couple things I could add:

1. The Titanium version of the Geforce2 was just called the GF2 Ti.

2. If you want to add Intel's IGPs, I can tell you the old extreme graphics 2 (865g) shoud be added to the list level as above the TNT/TNT2, but worse than the Geforce2 MX200.

3. When you list ATI Rage, I think you mean Rage 128, as the original Rage was much slower, and not even comparable to the TNT/TNT2.
March 5, 2007 6:09:03 PM

6800XT should be last.

No questions...
