I just got a opteron 170 processor and I thought I had the latest bios for my DFI sli-d motherboard. Just did a fresh install of windows xp pro and pretty much everything is telling me that only one core is being read. Has anyone else had similar problems? I'm going to try and see if I can update my bios again or does anyone have a place to update this board to handle dual cores. I think originally this board could only do single cores.

What is the actual bios version? You said you think you have the latest, but it would be worth double checking just to be sure. As far as I know any bios after 6/23/05 should support the opteron. I had been using my 170 with the 6/23/05 bios for a long time until just recently changing it to try and get a better overclock. You could try installing the AMD dual core optimzer and see if that fixes the problem.

If you go into device manage what shows up under the processor part?

I was wrong, I needed a new bios update. Now my system reads the class as a opteron and thats it's a dual core. Thanks for your help.
