Hi

I have a PD 820 and it idles at 46°C. Is this good? . I have a Thermaltake golden orb 2 on it, which is turning at 1600 rpm (to limit noise) and I don't know whether this is a good idle temp or not.

thanks..

My overclocked 805 runs at 41 degrees at idle. I use a Zalman CNPS9500. I think 46 sounds a little hot to me, so maybe you should try reseating the heatsink and using some new thermal paste. :D

The 820 is a "cooker" so 46 at idle isn't out of the ballpark... especially when you consider the (in)accuracy you often get on these readings.

What program are you using to report the temps ex. bios, coretemp, etc?

They are couple of things you can do.
-Reseat the hsf and apply new paste (as5).
-Add more fan inside of the case if possible.
-Case wiring (arrange the wiring so that proper airflow is passing inside of the case)
-Clean your case and inside of the case (fans, cpu hsf, etc) from dust.
- and of coure buy a different hsf... but i would not buy it.

To me 46C looks normal for P-D. It is a one hot cpu.
