Hi, I recently got a PNY geforce 7600 gs 512mb graphics card. And it would always freeze when I played games. So, I returned it. I heard from someone that the 512 mb means is for dual core processors? I have 3400+ AMD processor. So maybe this is why it froze? But, anyways i'm thinking about buying a PNY Geforce 7900 gs 256mb. But the minimum wattage is 350W and I have a 300W psu. So would the graphics card not work on my computer? Also I don't have the money for a good psu, ive seen some higher wattage psu's for 20$+ and the reviews were bad.

Here are my specs

yeah a good PS will be a minimum of 100, with some reaching upwards of 300
No, a good power supply costs a minimum of $58. That's as good as it gets.
If you build a mongo SLI gaming system, then power requirements go up substantially and $$$ hit over $100.

That card having 512MB does not mean it's for a dual-core, it mean that you spent more money for no extra performance. Newf's suggestion is the best for your situation. FSP PSUs are very reliable and will work great. If you don't have enough money you could always sell crack or pimp your girlfriend. That's how I paid for my new machine. Although now I have crackheads beating down my door and I can't stop scratching my genitals. Maybe that's not the best idea; just manage your money better.

Grab a standard ATX 12Vv2 PSU and you should be fine. You can find a decent 400-500W PSU on newegg for 50-60. IF you really want to run that awesome new card of yours, you might as well shell it out now. Your e-machines should gives you another year or so, and a 7900 GS should do you fine for a year (since it doesnt seem like you are a diehard gamer). Youre gonna need the extra power over 300W to run the newer cards.
