Good evening.

I have an ASUS P5W64 WS Prof Motherboard with 2 x BFG 7600GT graphics cards in it. The cards are in slot 16_1 & 16_2 on the MB.

I now have 3 Viewsonic 924 19" Monitors (the 3rd one arrived today) but I am having real trouble getting this third monitor up and running. The intention is to get the desktop to extend across all three monitors.

Display Settings recognises the three monitors (the three LCD icons appear) but as yet I have been unable to get anything to show on it!

Am I missing a trick here? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Alexis.

You need to install "nView" software.

Also, let me get this right: the two slots are for SLI operation yeah? You would have more success with 1 PCI express card and a vanilla PCI card for screen #3.

First, make sure you've downloaded the latest driver pack from nvidia's website... Once you've done that...

Getting your graphics card to recognize them:
Right-click an empty space on your desktop
- Click 'nVidia Control Panel'
-- in the Category list, click "Display"
--- Under "Multiple Displays" select "Change Display Configuration"
---- in choice 1.) select either "As one large horizontal desktop (horizontal span)" or "configured independently from each other (DualView)"
----- in choice 2.) whichever configuration you want
------ after selecting what you want, close the box

Arranging them within windows:
right-click an empty space on your desktop
- click the 'settings tab'
-- make sure all monitors are enabled here, by clicking the image of any 'grayed out' monitors and making sure 'extend my windows desktop onto this monitor' is checked
--- arrange the monitors in the window to how they are on your desk by dragging them into the appropriate spot in the window (may help to click 'identify' to figure it out)
---- click "ok"

should be done >,>

- cheers

He'll be fine with two PCIe 16X slots as long as he doesn't try to run them in SLi.

You can even wap back and forth should he decide to run in SLi, but you can't do both.

At this point since he alreasy has the 2 GTs no point in changing IMO.

Many thanks for those tips, however i am still not getting anythng on the third monitor.

In the Nvidia control panel --> Multiple Display Config I see the following:

Card 1 is set up with display mode of 'Dual View' and 2 monitors are selected. This is working correctly (these were the origianl two monitors and card) and the desktop is across both screens

Card 2 is only allowing display mode 'use single display'. I have also just noticed that the new monitor is showing up as ANALOG DISPLAY in the drop down and not the name of the monitor as the other two do on the other card.

In Display --> Settings from the desktop the three monitors are shown correctly by name and the 3 LCD icons appear in a line as they should.

In device manager the three monitors appear however there are an additional 3 'default monitors' shown here. None of the monitors are greyed out.

Any idea why nothing is showing on this Third screen?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Mobius

I have NView installed at the moment. Are there settings in here I need to alter?

Is there any reason why a vinilla PCI card would make this easier?

Kind regards,

Alexis.

I found that very same link last night and installed UltraMon - but to no avail.

One thing I have just noticed is that in Device Manager I have the following:

Default Monitor
Default Monitor
Default Monitor
Viewsonic VX922
Viewsonic VX924
Viewsonic VX924

What are the three Default Monitors. I just tried uninstalling them but when I rebooted they returned. Should they be there?

Pay no mind to those... sometimes that happens, I'm not sure why... but windows recognizes that you have the 3 monitors, which is good... as long as it shows in the Display Properties that there's 3 monitors, and not 6, then you're doing good..

did you pay attention to this:
-- make sure all monitors are enabled here, by clicking the image of any 'grayed out' monitors and making sure 'extend my windows desktop onto this monitor' is checked

that part refers to the screen arrangement in the Display Properties (you didn't mention it, and so i thought it might've been overlooked)

if a 3rd monitor is showing up, but grayed out, click it and check the box for 'extend my windows desktop onto this monitor'

Also, what connection are you using for the 3rd monitor that isn't showing up? DVI or DB15 (commonly referred to as VGA)???

if you're using the VGA connection, try using an DVI-to-VGA adapter on the other port... they can usually be picked up at a local electronics shop for less than $5...

The physical connections are correct, the settings SEEM correct...

last thing I can think of is that you may have to manually select the source input of the 3rd monitor... go through it's menu and make sure it's set to use whatever input you have coming into it :)

- Cheers

After much frustration I uninstalled everything and started again - I am pleased to say that I have success! The 'new' monitor is now showing in the display settings as 'plug-and-play' not as VX922 as previously, but it works so I shouldnt worry too much!! I thought about getting the drivers replaced for it but if it aint broke....

Many thanks for all your help!
