I am trying to reinstall (clean) windows 2000 Pro on a computer that was just
having too many issues. The previous version of 2000 Pro had service packs
1-3 installed.
The issue- I was able to get the installation started, after the first
re-boot I am prompted to insert Windows Service Pack 2 CD into the drive-
which did not come with the computer, hence no disk.
I am unable to get to a DOS prompt to unpack the SP2 installer that is
available from microsoft.com. I also tried unpackingthe installer onto a CD-
but since the computer I am working on has SP4, it won't let the unpacking
finish and it erases all the files....frustrating.
Does anyone know of a way to get SP2 on disk, or download the files with out
the installer (unable to find the info on microsoft.com)? Or, a way to get
to get the installer to unpack it's files and not delete them ? Or how to
circumvent the set-up and get to a dos prompt?
