Hi all,

I started getting a "password will expire in 13 days on the win2k
computer at work, and it asks me if I want to change it.. after
bypassing it a few times, I finally just said yes and went in and
typed in the same password, and it said ok the password had been
changed. ????

How do I stop this behavior... when I set a password that's what I
want it to be forever.. now I have to go and check the other win2k
machines before they expire... which brings up a question, what
happens if the password DID expire, would I be locked out of the
computer?

These computers are at work so have no other reference as all mine are
win98 or winxp here at home.

thanks for any wisdom about this.

Sounds like the admin at work set it up so your password expires after a
certain amount of time. Also sounds like he didn't set it up so you can't
use the same password immediately.

This is a security measure.

thanks Danny,

well, I'm the one who set it up, but this must have been a default
setting, how do I change it?

there is only the administrator profile which does have a password,
and one restricted profile which I setup without a password, but both
of them were giving me that message saying the passwords were
expiring. ??

Where would I go change that behavior?

thanks,
niteowl

Steven's suggestions are correct,

You can use the following steps to disable the password expiration:

To turn off password expiration, follow these steps:

1) Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

2) Click to expand Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.

3) Double-click the user account that should not have a password
expiration, and click to select the Password never expires check box.

If you are in the domain enviorment, please refer to the following article
to turn off the folloiwng domain policy:
Interactive Logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration.

For more details, please refer to the following article:

your suggestions worked perfectly, I'm not sure how it got set that
way, but now have a check on the "password never expires" option, so
assuming it will work now.

thanks for your input,
