I’m planning to upgrade a server in a child domain from Win NT 4 to Win
Server 2003. What I would like to do is a fresh install since there is only 6
user and no many other resources to configure. This server (domain) links to
our Head Office thru the internet. The current domain name is “companyB,
after the fresh install it would change to “companyB.lan. The questions I
have are:
1. Is doing a fresh install a good idea?
2. How do I go about preparing the Parent Domain? Just delete the child
domain?
3. Is .lan a good extension for a private LAN domain? I had some problems
when we upgraded the parent domain, because the consultant named the domain
as companyA.com and users were no able to access our website, so I had to add
the www and ftp entries to our DNS.
