i have just built this system:
E6300 intel core 2 duo 1.86ghz
1 gb kingston PC5300 ram
350watt psu
ASRock 775Dual-VSTA mobo
160gb seagate hdd sata
onborad graphics
new monitor 19inch (could this be the cause i doubt it but just asking)
the proiblem:
everything is fine until 5 minutes after i log in and the computer goes slow very slow it then comes up with an error insufficient resources and i have to restart the computer
the ram is brand new so i dunno whether its that or not this is very annoying as this is a brand new system. i have run anti virus and nothing has come up.
thanks for your help

I doubt it, 350W would be plenty if it was working properly, this sounds more like something software. Or the heatsink isn't seated properly and it's slowly overheating, but I wouldn't expect an insufficient resources error from that.
When you get into Windows, hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to open Task Manager, and watch your memory usage. It says either in the bottom right corner, or in the Performance tab you can watch a graph of it. What does it do?
The power supply is fine and if it were a heat issue you would see the system slow and probably shut down by itself and not see a resourse issue reported.
Does the disk activity pick up when the system slows? does network activity (internet) increase? something is running that you do not know about.
Check to see what is running when the system slows. Then google the task and see if it is related to malware.

1 GB should be plenty enough, don't know why it say insufficient resources.
I have like 40 process running an still have plenty to spare.
since you did not specify, I am assuming this is in XP:
At the desktop click on Start button,
Run
msconfig
choose startup tab
Look at the list of services running and uncheck anything that is not absolutely necessary and restart.
Also, right click on your bottom taskbar and choose, Task Manager, go to processes and look for anything running using a great deal of memory or CPU time.
you may have picked up malware from that porn sight, heh????
first of all can i say thanks for the help and quick replies. I have bin on task manager and the processor is showing 50% constantly under processes there isnt anything that seem sto b causing this. they are all normal programs. another thing i forgot to mention is earlier it was working perfect and that seemed to be bcos it connected to the internet. the rest fo the time it wont connect. You should never be at 50% with nothing running. If all that is the case than you may have a driver or device installed badly, reboot into safe mode and see if the CPU usage is the same in safe mode. If it is than its hardware. I used to have a printer that if I plugged in USB it shot up my CPU by 35% just polling constantly. Fortunately it had a Firewire connection that worked correctly. So also unplug all USB devices and see what happens then.
Do you play any online poker? I noticed those poker prgms like partypoker, pokerroom, etc are filled with spyware, malware, and other crap that will slow down a computer.
It's probably some spyware running. Check with antivirus, antispyware and rootkit software.
In some cases it's impossible to get rid of spyware and requires reinstall of a backup.

The system crashing when you go into device manager is not right at all. Something is corrupted. Try removing and reinstalling the device drivers. Or restoring to a version that did not exhibit the problem. This needs to be corrected before any more troubleshooting can occur.
