I just finished building my first computer from scratch and I'm having issues installing Vista. When I install Vista, the install asks me to install the CD/DVD driver for my DVD drive. According to Samsung they don't provide drivers because windows uses a generic driver for all CD/DVD drives. I tried to install XP home, but the installation BSODs before the first prompt. I'm straight up confused on this one and here are my specs:

C2D E6700 chip
975XBX2 board
1GB OCZ DDR2 667 (x4) memory
320GB SATA Hitachi Deskstar (x4) HDDs
120GB ATA133 Maxtor HDD
Samsung SH-S183L (SATA) DVD burner
8800GTS 320MB video card

Samsung suggested I format the hard drives even though they are all brand new (exept the maxtor), but I seriously doubt that will fix problem. Anybody know of a driver I could use to install to continue installing windows?

Is it a full vista or a vista upgrade? If its an upgrade you have to install XP first (from what i've heard).

are you doing any RAID w/ all those HDDs?

Suggest running memtest86 to ensure memory is ok. May not be an issue but you can never be too careful.

The windows installation should format the drives for you if you choose to do so.
