I have a new server that was setup as a workgroup sharing server. It's not a
domain controller and the customer doesn't want it to be. However, after
several days of running the unit started shutting off automatically. The
event log showed that the server had to be shutdown in 30 minutes because it
wasn't a domain controller. Why would it do this. I couldn't find any
information in the knowledge base pertaining to this. The other workstation
pcs are Win XP Home. The previous server was windows 2000 and this one is
Windows 2003 server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

When you view the logged events in Event Viewer (double-click them in the
right-hand pane) in the upper right corner, third button down is a copy to
clipboard, then you can paste in the body of a reply message.

Please do so for each of the different System Log events (that are a Type:
'Error' or 'Warning') since last boot so we can see all of the event detail.

Are you sure this isn't Win2003 from SBS2003? You can't run it as a
standalone server, if so.... has to be a DC. And has to be the "boss" of the
AD domain.

If that isn't it, check your event logs....
