I am planning on getting a 19 inch widescreen. The recommended resolution is 1440 x 900. My video card is an EVGA 7900gt. I noticed that 1440 x 900 is not an option in my display properties. Where is the 1440 x 900 setting? Do I have to plug in the widescreen in order to be able to select 1440 x 900? Sorry if this sounds dumb - I'm a newb when it comes to widescreens.
Thanks.
If your monitor doesn't now support that resolution then even if the card is capable of it windows will probably hide it. Check out NVidia's website to see if the resolution is supported.
Isn't there an option in the control panel to display all resolutions, even if the monitor doesn't support them? That should at least show you whether that resolution is supported on a monitor which does.
It will be filtering out the resolutions your curent monitor cant display.
There is an option to display all resolutions available to the card (rather than just the monitor). First though, you need to change the Nvidia Control panel to display in classic view- then the option should be available.
IT's pointless to work beyond 1024x768 x 32 bit resolution in video unless u have a business that requires more.
THis is also the best resolution for all games for most ppl.
In addition, your gaming experience is optimized when you match the desktop resolution with the game resolution.
You will experience the best load up times when ur desktop and game res are matched.
Maybe 1024x768 is alright for businesses, but for gaming I'd never be able to tolerate that low-res garbage, especially on an LCD that has a higher native resolution.

Totally unfounded- higher resolution than 1024x768 is visibly nicer. Also, the only difference in the load times would be your monitor switching resolutions, which IMO is pretty insignificant.

Honestly, what the hell are you talking about? Don't make assumptions about what other people require in their hardware. 1024x768 resolution for gaming? The Xbox 360 and PS3 have higher max resolutions and they still cannot compare with the graphics quality at which I run the majority of my games. And the whole load time thing is an out-and-out fabrication. Seriously, if you don't know what your you're writing about then just don't write.
