Can someone tell me how to change the default user name that comes up when
booting Win 2000?

Sounds like you had your pc setup to AutoLogon you can run regedit, then
drill down to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
and edit the string values below with the new user name and password.
"DefaultUserName"=
"DefaultPassword"=
Then the pc should autologon as before.
