Hi there:

My apology if someone has already asked in the past or there has alreay a guide posted somewhere about how to setup a VPN at home with DSL, dynamic IP address. I am new to this field and want some specific guideline on how to set a VPN solution (for experiment and possible future usage).

thanks.

Yes, its possible.

Linksys offers a small solution using a concentrator and an end point. Concentrator would be at your main center and the end point at your location you would be connecting from.

Total cost is somewhere between $200-$500 - I haven't really checked recently.

Other options are Cisco which go into the thousand of dollars. Windows XP/ 2k3 offer software solutions.

There are other free software solutions out there you can download or buy to get such features.

Do a google search for Free VPN or VPN, you'll find a plethora of info on it.

OpenVPN is your friend.

Be aware that there are often MTU concerns when you are using DSL. Make sure you look into each VPN solutions configuration options for MTU settings or fragmentation checks or maximum packet size. OpenVPN is very configurable in this way.
