is it normal for the "burn" to only appear if the background is certain colors?
if the background is blackk, i dont see it, but its more clear if it is white.
the most frustrating thing about it is that it is real faint, but just there so
I know it is there and i sort of am looking for it. kind of like that one dead
pixel on the monitor.
going back to the best buy issue, are they generally cooperative w/r/t taking
it back? what should i expect from them. thanks as always!

Depending on how severe the burn is on each crt it is totally possible to
see it only on whites or a specific colour display. Having a totally black
raster, all the crts will be cut off displaying no raster, therefore no burn
visable. Best way to eveluate it would be to connect a source that will
display not only the white raster but also all three, red, blue, green
independently so a tech can eveluate the condition of each tube. Was the set
indicating the burn when you purchased it form BB?? If so then it should be
no problem returning it, however, if the burn resulted because of your
specific viewing habits, Good Luck, the manufacturers do not warrenty
devices from customer induced problems.
