Ok, ladies and gentlemen please be gentle with me. This is going to be my FIRST build outside of my CIS classroom. So here are my specs:

Mushkin 2GB Ram

Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Mobo

XFX Nvidia Geforce 7900 GT

Cooler Master 550 W PSU

Intel C2D E6400

Western Digital 160 GB HDD

and 2 Optical Drives (both ASUS)

Let me know how it all looks to you guys and gals.

Overall, very nice choices. Will work great.
now for picky little things:
The RAM costs moe than you really need, good stuff but you can get same thing for $175.
HD is on the small side, depending on your habits, might look at a 320gb
You did not list any cooling. I do not think that case comes with fans. Running the CPU at stock speeds, you can use the stock cooler, make sure you get a retail box, OEM comes with no cooler.

Can you name some good and cheaper RAM for me and also, I think they have fans in the case. Might have to get a better CPU cooler. But I got nothing but time until I buy and build

I checked out 3 sets with good names. This one was the best and the cheapest. And who does not like orange heat speaders?!?
GeIL 2GB
Lowest latacy and good voltage spread, no install problems.

edit: checked your case and there are two fans, must remember a different model, so many pics, so little memory left.

looks pretty good except for your gpu choice.

not that the 79gt is bad. but you might try for a 76gt.

i know its cheaper and that is the point.
then a couple of months go for one of the newer ati/nv cards.

unless you can afford about 100$ or so more for the 88gts320mb card.

And I'd drop the 7900GT if you are going to OC. Even at that good price.

A 7900GS will have roughly the same performance at stock, but (it's cheaper) and it will clock higher than the GT, surpassing it when both are overclocked.

This one allows you to go even higher because of the heatsink. No heat problems like the others. I can almost assure you 650/1640 clocks. Search for reviews. And look at the price after rebates: $159.99

I looked at the stats for the 7900 GS, it about the same as the GT and cheaper. so I am going with that. Man, it's getting cheaper and cheaper to build now, I will look into the 8800 320 mb when I get Vista. Now this build is looking more and more possible. Yet, if you have another more advice, I would love to hear more.

Yes:

This allows you to SLI two 8800GTX for $89.99:

And with the money saved in gfx and psu drop + $10 on this:

I'm not really looking into SLI not yet. My grand total went down alot once I changed a few things. I swapped the video card for a 7900 GS (tho I will look into the 8800 320mb when my funds are better). Cut back my ram to 1GB in the meantime. so everything now is around 880 which is really possible now. I am loving the input, keep bringing it.

I'm not leading you to sli. I'm just saying that that psu is more powerful and cheaper.
I'd build it this way: I'll tell you why.

Same cpu because of the multiplier.

To save more and be able to upgrade to quad core, with great OC potential
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813130082

To get 3Ghz 1:1 low latencies or hanging 800Mhz no problem (and dirt cheap)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820161675

Powerful with 32Amps on two +12V rails
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817190012

Great performer, overclocker and cheap
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814125045

Same case
http://www.newegg.com/product/prod [...] 6811119077

Total: $758.94 and with 2Gb of Ram.

Or $868.94 with this baby and the same 2Gb of Ram:

Best system you can buy for that money

That 8800 Geforce is very very nice, I will upgrade to it later on. I wanna get some good use out of it 7900 GS before I go DX10. All your options look pretty good like the mobo and psu you suggested. I dont know if I need that much wattage.

Reply to maguszxz

believe me, in a few year you might want to upgrade your gfx card, and that psu will handle it. Don't make the same mistake I did.

And the cooler master you pointed at first is even more expensive than this. This one goes to 89.99 after rebates.
