Hi. I have a NETGEAR WGR614v6 router and i want to forward ports.

I read somewhere that i need a static IP to be able to forward ports. It also said to be able to set a static IP i need to disable DHCP in my router.

So is that true and if so then how do i disable it and if its not true then how come port forwading isn't working?

Thanks

You don't have to disbale DHCP for a static IP address. The Netgear has Address Resvervation which allows a client computer to always receive the same IP address. It's explained on page 7-12 of the manual.

You don't need a static IP address. Just use Address Resvervation on your Netgear and you'll always have the same IP address. Then just forward the port(s) to it.

Do you know how to change the settings on your router??? Open a web browser, type http://192.168.0.1 and look for Address Reservation. If you can't understand that you'll never get the correct ports forwarded.
