How do yo9u get rid of all the icons in the tray on the taskbar, the tray
where the clock is. Some of them are per application, I realize that, but
cannot find a way to get rid of the volume control, the windows messenger,
one says "Safely Remove Hardware", another is an HP Director and and others
that have no visible way to remove.

Thanks!

Usually in the settings/options of the application.
Volume control - from control panel-sound and audio
devices, uncheck 'place volume icon in the task bar'
The HP digital imaging monitor can be removed by removing
the shortcut in your All Programs> startup directory. I
don't use messenger, but it should be found in the options.
Safely remove hardware I'd leave alone.
