First of all, I apologize in advance if I sound like a noob but I'm in need of some help/advice....
I have:
Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe Mobo BIOS ver 603
Intel E6700 (2.66 GHz)
OCZ 2x1GB DDR2 PC2-8000 1000MHz Gold GX XTC Dual Channel. (These were all given to me so it wasn't really my choice of hardware)
I have read many posts about the problems the P5N32 has with RAM that is greater than or equal to 800MHz and I know that the best route is to manually set the values in the BIOS to get the best performance.
Here is where I need the help...
I know that my RAM timings are 5-6-6-15 @ 2.1V (from OCZ Website)
What are good values for the other settings that matter? I just want to get the best performance without overclocking too much so the system is stable.
I am confused as to what I should set the FSB Clock and Memory Clock (MHz) to and the corresponding RAM timings aswell as voltages. Since the system is unstable when the Memory Clock is at 1000MHz at stock timings (random freezing/lockups), should I set it down to 800MHz and keep stock RAM timings?
Or what about at 533MHz since I read in another post on here that the External FSB is 266 and that 266 x 2 (Dual Channel DDR) = 532 ~ 533MHz?
Can I lower the Latency timings for that RAM?
Should I mess with the tRC and Address Mode (1T vs 2T) values or leave them on Auto?
Other values I can change in the BIOS are...
FSB Optimization Mode (Enabled/Disabled)
Memory Optimize Mode (Enabled/Disabled)
CPU VCore Voltage - ?
FSB Termination Voltage - ?
NB Chipset Voltage - ?
SB Chipset Voltage - ?
Also, would it better to:
A.) Stick with this setup ( Not looking at doing anything hardcore)
B.) Keep the Mobo and get diff RAM
C.) Keep the RAM and get a diff Mobo
I know this might be asking for a lot but I'm desperate since it seems like a system with these expensive components should be running a lot faster than it really is (and I'm talking about booting up, shutting down on a SATA2 300GB HD with a fresh WinXP Pro and very few programs installed).
