I've just installed Windows 2000 Server upgrade without upgrading over
a previous install. That is, during installation, I merely introduced
the NT4 Server CD, which was duly accepted.
As of now, there is only W2KS on the network. It's using a fixed IP
address and will act as its own DNS server. (The DNS server is not yet
running.)
The first thing I wanted to do in the "Configure Your Server" applet
was to select the install as "This is the only server in my network."
When I do that, I receive the message, "Because one or more other
servers already exist, you cannot configure this server as the only
server on the network. For more information, contact your system
administrator."
Why can't I select the W2KS server as the only server on the network?
If I have to use the second choice, "One or more servers are already
running on my network," will it limit the configuration in any way?
Also, how can I see the servers that W2KS thinks already exist?
(They're not present in "net view" or in "My Network Places".)
regards, Andy
