Hey everyone. I dont want to spend too much on my next pc but I would like to know if E6700 is worth the money. How high can the E6700 be overclocked? What should I get between the E6000s? What exactly is worth what I get? Please answer and explain why you think that.

I say the 6300 unless you do heavy-duty stuff (video editing, 3d rendering, Enterprise level SQL, etc.) The 6300 is blazing fast, overclocks well and is still pretty cheap. When I do my upgrade I'm actually going to get a 4300 myself. My best advice, get a 6300 or 4300, use that for about a year then grab a cheap quad-core.

if your poor and do not overclock buy the e6700

if you overclock and want value buy the e6600 (my vote) bigger cache 3.2ghz+

if you want a killer rig get the x6800 (my rig water) or qx6700(video encoding)

if want to spend a little get the e6300 and run it 2.8ghz+ (my rig air)

if you really economical and are going with a low end 800-1200fsb mobo like the pn5 590chipset or 800fsb overclocking mobo get the e4300

------------

your not goint to change chips for 3-5 yrs and you got cash the qx6700

------------

you want the quad and know its the future but $900+ is too much -- get the the qx6600 for $500 in a few months
--------

you only speak amti and your eat amti then get a low end x2 (4200+ my little rig) and pray for good upgrades!
-----------

Yes, if your #1 priority is cash, go with the 6300. Overclocking is a crapshoot so there's no "How high can the E6700 be overclocked" or anything like that, but there is a general understanding that as a family of CPU, the C2D's are very overclockable. Some will go sky-high, and then some won't.

My advice? Buy the cpu (and some decent cooling), push it as far as you can, and smile, because you've got one hell of a processor!

it all depends on what you have to pay for it, i got my 6700 plus a 6600 on ebay for $686. i feel like it was a deal and im in the process of building a system to sell to a friend with the 6600 in it. i know that alot of people can get the lower cost processors up to the speed i have mine at. i say consider your use of system ( gaming video encoding etc) and overclocking ability also. im not sure but i hear people say the extra cache helps in editing/encoding,all i can say for sure is the new system kills the old amd x2 4600 system i had at video encoding . hope my input helps with your choice

$500 on a CPU isn't my opinion of poor... but getting a good deal on an E6600 is probably the best way to go. Especially at a discount it is well worth the price/performance ratio.

E6600 is awsome better than all the amd procs and not to much money. plus if u over clock its on par or better than e6800 for way less money.

Processor
E6600
$380

You are in California so that E6600 price is way to much now. Newegg has boxed versions for $313 (free 3day shipping) and the Frys chain has them now through Tuesday bundled with the standard semi-crap ECS PT890T-A Motherboard for $319. Frys also has low cost matched 2G (2x1G) 800MHz DDR2 Patriot kits for $169. Not like the sale Newegg had on Firestix's recently but reasonably OK

if your poor and do not want to overclock -- it says

-------

if $500 is too much and your poor and you do not want to overclock keep using the sempron your on and save your money!

use a 925 if your poor and do not want to overclock! - mobo/chip combo is less then $200 and its dual core!

Well actually your post said "if you are poor get the E6700", which is $500, more than most people want to spend on a CPU. The E6600 is for people wanting to save money but get great performance. And who are you calling poor!? :)
