Hey,

My current system :

Athlon XP 3000+
A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard
1.5gb ram
XFX 7800GS Graphics Card

Is currently still chugging along with an older 350W power supply, and i'm thinking I should change it. I'm looking for a good PSU that will keep me going strong with my current setup, but also support an upgrade, possibly in a few years, and although I have my eyes on the OCZ GameXtream or whatever it's called, and the Antec Neo, Neo HE and Truepower 500W+ range, i'm wondering whether they will be able to work on my older board.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but have seen some good reviews for the Antec TruePowerTrio PSU (at least in its price range ... everything is relative). Right now Fry's has a good deal on it, $79.99 after a $40 rebate:

Same one at Newegg is $129.99 on a "weekend deal":

Thanks for the info, i'll take a look.

It's just that i've heard about problems with the Neo HE PSU with older motherboards, in particular the Asus range, so i'm concerned about getting it.

Future-proofing with a power supply is tough to do since new video card additional power sockets come up every few months. 4 pin becomes 6 pin becomes 8 pin becomes 2 x 6 pin...
Some cpu power sockets have gone from 4 pin to 8 pin.
Unless you plan on having the latest high-end graphics in your future rig, this psu will probably work fine later. It will certainly work fine for now:

From what I recall, this mobo is "legacy" in regards to the PSU since it lacks the 4-pin +12V connector, so you can neglect the CPU power when you calc the +12v power consumption. If that's the case, keep the old 350W since you probably won't hit over 10A demand on your +12 rail & just get one when you upgrade the bare-bones cpu/mobo/mem (may prevent premature aging  )
