My lovely new Corsair HX620 arrived today. Good quality package, but I've got a big problem with it....
My case is an Antec 900 and the PSU fits in the bottom rather than at the top, and the Corsair's fan is... on the bottom! Obviously I can't fit it like this as there would be no airflow. Fitting it upside down will leave it open to as much dust as could fall into it, and I'm not sure that this is safe, or even that it's safe to fit PSUs upside down. I could cover the fan aperture with a piece of fine aluminium car body mesh.....
What does anyone think? Should I just buy another PSU? Thanks for any help
I have the same exact rig. Its perfectly safe to mount the PSU upside down. The stickers peel off and reverse perfectly just for such instances. A lot of cases mount PSUs like ths. I wouldn't worry about the dust. Most will blow away or out anyway. You may just want to take some compressed air to it every once and a while.
flip its fits - if it does not get a new psu - you need to flip it
when building the system put paper over the fan so screws don't fall in!
same amount of dust is going to get sucked in not matter what! electronics work find upside down = unless you got a mercury switch from mid 20th century
you could also put a screen to fan filter - metal mesh if you can access the screws remove 2 - then screw the mesh down and bend it up - then remove the other 2, bend the mesh and screw down the other 2
My main concern with mounting the PSU at the bottom of the case is heat. I would imagine all of the heat will rise upwards towards all the other componants??
Normally if the PSU is at the top the heat would rise out of the case and the fan on the PSU would also vent rising heat form other componants within the case.
