Sysprep and Norton Ghost 8

I am deploying a new application to several servers using sysprep and norton ghost. When I put the image on the target computers everything works fine except that Windows update lists critical updates that are already installed. When I try to clear the updates by reinstalling them the system goes into a continuous cycle of coming up to the desktop and then automtically rebooting. Is there a way to reset Windows Update?
