Hi,

I noticed that my new EVGA 8800GTS gets hot. Its hard to hold my finger on the exposed aluminum after playing 3D games a while. Is this normal? Is there a way to check its temp? I only ask because im having some stability issues.

Thanks!

There is a nvidia monitor program that will show temps if you have nvidia drivers installed. If you look under gpu settings make sure the fan is under direct control and set to 100%. By default it will be on auto at about 1/2 speed. My 8800GTX was running near 80 till i turned the fan up now it runs under 60
Hope this helps

OK...I found that nvidia manager and cranked up my GPU FAN.
My idle temp is 51C, i quess thats normal.

Anyone no what the max temperature this card should ever get?

anyway to detect the temp during a 3d vid game? Maybe during 3DMark or something? So I can Max out the card and see the temp.

Thanks

After playing awhile, ALT+TAB and check out the temp in NVidia Panel.
My idle is around 53-54, full load around 75...

That is how the GTS rolls, i will get hot while running 3d games, what you can do is take off the heatsink, scrape off the stock thermal paste and replace it with some AS5
That should improve your temps a bit.

I use riviatuner to oc and adjust fan setting, and atitool and ntune to monitor. I am running 8800gts 640mb at 630/1000 (2000clock) with an idle of 59c and 75c full load.

sirheck,
if your just using the control panel I think that you might have to update your drivers. B/f I got the 8800 last week I had a 7600gs 512 and I could use the control panel to adjust the card but with the 8800 with the newest drivers the only way that you can change clock settings and fan settings is with ntune.

i have the newest drivers.

for some reason nv controlpanel locks up.
but i dont care.

it works fine otherwise.

i may oc it at a later time.

i have recently turned all of my oc,s back to stock.
i see no difference.

i use atitool for the temps only.

If you have RivaTuner, you can set up a "server" and monitor your GPU temps, video memory usage, CPU usage, ect. in-game. The reading will show in the corner. Very handy
