Hello all, I am feeling a little confused with this issue. Here is my setup relavent to this question:
Motherboard=Asus P5N-E, Case=Antec 900, No dedicated sound card (using integrated sound on MB), OS=Windows Vista Ultimate
Sound from the MB integrated sound card works fine. I have connect the frontpanel sound cable to the MB, and I have configured the BIOS to use AC97. Within Vista I can go to the Playback Devices setup and I see the headphone device. Within the configuration of the headphone device, I can play the test sound and I can hear the sound through my headphones just fine. The microphone jack on the front panel works fine as well.
The issue is that when I plug my headphones in there is no "switch over" to the headphones from the main sound output. I see no option within Vista to redirect or support redirecting the sound through the headphone jacks.
As of now I have not downloaded and installed the sound drivers for the Asus motherboard, as Vista was able to detect the sound automatically. I figured I didn't need to add any new or different sound driver because I could hear sound just fine.
My thoughts are that I need to use the specific MB driver for sound to get Vista to support redirecting through the AC97 headphone jack, but before I go blindly installing new drivers I wanted to ask for opinions and thoughts. Any help would be appreciated.
