I was wondering what everyone was getting with the 8800gts 640mb in 3d mark 06. I seem to be getting lower scores then the rest. I am in the:

high 2k's for sm2.0
high 3k's for sm3.0
and 1.5k for my cpu.

My total is 7002, or around there. When I am looking at other scores it seems that peole are getting consistently higher scores then me, especially in sm2.0.
I have a feeling that it is my cpu but I was just wondering. When I play games, dark messiah, hl2, bf2142, I play with max aa and af and have no problems at all. I am getting 80 plus in cs source stress test and 100% above 40 in fear with a max of 210. I think that at the low resolution in 3dmark06 with no aa or af my cpu is creating a bottleneck. What does everyone think? For now everything runs great but In the next few months or so I will probably go with a c2d.

thanks
marc

It is quite low. According to the median here: http://www.hardforum.com/showthrea [...] 07&page=42 ; it should be 10 - 11K. Whats your PSU's rating?

The CPU and GPU is scored seperately in 3DMK, don't think your CPU is at fault.

edit. Just saw your signature. Shouldn't be the PSU. Vista takes a performance hit if your running it.

the 3dmarks are one thing.

but how it plays is the biggest.

if it plays your games good i wouldnt worry.

As far as games go I couldn't be happier. I can run everything at max with no lag of drop in fps that is noticeable.

I thought that 3d mark 06 was very cpu dependent from what I have been reading, especially on the trial b/c of the low res and the absense of aa and af. Instead of the gpu doing most of the work the cpu is working harder so it creates a bottleneck whereas if I where at a higher res in 3d mark then the gpu would be doing more work taking away from the bottleneck that the cpu is facing.

Also when I looked at other scores on the future mark website under the orb section I am the highest one with my cpu and all of the others with the same systems are getting consistent scores with mine. That is why it leads me to believe that at stock speeds my cpu is the culprit.

Let me know what you all think about this????

thanks a lot,
Marc

yes 3dmark06 does account for more cpu usage.

i have the same card with an amd s939 toledo core at 2.6ghz
and the x2 amd cpu,s outperform everything but the newer
core2 intels.

run a 3dmark05 and post your score.

i would like to see what it is. 8)

with my default E6400 i got 7800, after mild OC to 2.66 i got 8300

my fren using pentium D 930 3.0ghz, 320mb non OC gts n 1gb memory got 6800

i think ur score is normal

Reply to kdinx

Yeah I would say the score is normal given you have a Pentium D.
Bungholio mark aint no big deal.

At 645 core / 1000 memory and 3.6C2D I get around 11k. I think the CPU importance is "over-rated" in 3D06.

I will run 05 and post in an hour or two.

3d mark 05 = 10226

Here are my 06 results w/o spyware and symantic running in the backround:

Main Test Results
3DMark Score 7122 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 3002 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 3655 Marks
CPU Score 1569 Marks

For '05, I would have expected your score to be a bit higher. But like others have said, it's in-game performance that counts.

That's about right. With my system at stock I achived about a 7600 off the top of my head, and at 2.66ghz around 8150.

About the 05 score, I think that it would probably be higher if I turned off symantic and spyware remover. I forgot to do that before I ran it.

Yeah, Norton definitely affects my gaming experience when runnning in the backround.

Stock e6600 and 8800 gts got me around 8500 in 3dmark06.

Even though norton doesn't show that it is effecting the cpu at all it must, right?

i get around 11 to 12000 with the 88gts 640mb.
also with the new 3dmark 05 that score is for just the vid card.

add your cpu score to it. mine was 12something with a cpu score of around 6000.

i was getting around 10000 with 68gt,s overall score.
the older one (or the last time i ran a 3d mark)05
it put both scores together.

i downloaded 3dmark05 last week to see how my new 8800
would do and it is completly different from the last one.

used to it would give a score, now i have to go on line
for a score. ?

i usually am on line with temp monitoring crap and some other shtuff
running in the background.

e6600 @ 3.0GHz + 8800GTS w/640 @ stock + vista = 3DMark06 of 8661

Sounds like you're in the same ballpark as I am. I also was shown at the bottom of the pack of comparitive systems but the others are likely XP and many likely have used ntune to OC their video card.

Yeah, but he's got Norton running. It's notorious for eating up precious system resources. I turn it off when I play anything demanding, and it makes a pretty big difference.

Reply to kaotao

in response to John P, I am using xp pro, not vista. Sorry for the confusion.

Have you tried running it without antivirus, and spyware protection on?

Reply to kaotao

nope. I just figured that they both were effecting the cpu. I usually run around 3-4% on cpu when the comp is just on the desktop
