So since Comcast STILL doesn't have ABC, what's the least expensive way to
get it over the air in Atlanta...I'm right in town and I can't do an outside
antenna...what should I try? (box and antenna)

Don't cheap out on the STB. I have a the Funai-Sylvania box and it doesn't
do 720p HD without the picture freezing and falling out of sync with the
sound with HD programming. I'd get an STB from a source you can return it
to if this happens.

If you can wait a better one should be at Walmart before year's end.

http://broadcastengineering.com/ne [...] _receiver/

Conditions must be almost perfect for the current generation of receivers to
give good results.

If you say so. Hundreds of posts here indicate otherwise.

You mean like my bent antenna mast with the antenna no longer pointing in
the correct direction, and it's still able to grab a 150kW station that is
20 miles away?

Twenty miles is not very far, I'm closer than that and have problems with
reception.

Up until I first saw the news about the 5th gen receiver's test results I
was
sure a bigger antenna would solve all my reception problems. But maybe not.

As soon as I can get one I will find out if the reports are true, if so it
will
be great. But in either case I will post my results here.

Yes it is, for a 150kW station broadcasting from the same tower as an
adjacent channel 5000kW station.

As a guess, I'd say that your problem could be too much signal. I have at
least one station that I get a better carrier-to-noise ratio if I add a 9dB
attenuator. Since the C/N for that station is acceptable without it, and
other stations do better without it, I don't use it.

Unless you have the tools to do a real analysis of the signal, everything
is just "shotgun diagnostics". I've done enough checking on mine to know
that multipath--which is the only thing that the LG chipset does better--is
rarely really a problem, even when intentionally introduced.

Since you haven't ever posted your exact location (longitude and latitude
to one decimal place should do), we can't really help with any better
guesses.

Take a look at the USDTV receiver at WalMart.com. The only advantage
that the "5th" generation receiver has over what is offered now is
resistance to multipath. If you, like most, do not have severe multipath
problems, there is no need to wait for a "5th" generation receiver.

The least expensive is the USDTV at Walmart for $198.

The new model will be one of the first to use 5th gen technology and I hope
it
will cost no more that the current model. This is the one I will try as soon
as
it is for sell.

The current one may work fine for you, try it and return it if you have
reception
problems otherwise keep it. Thats what I'm going to do with the new model.

I beleive the post, but the three people (including me) that I know first
hand
have problems. The other two just gave up and live with the poor to fair
results.
We all have tried multiple antennas, we all started with indoor and moved to
larger
antennas. The other two don't post or read anything from these news groups
but they exist none the less. I was going to get a larger root top antenna
but
decided to wait when I saw the post about the new receiver technogly.
