e6400 already @ 3.2Ghz = OCing a e6600 @ 3.6Ghz easy?

Hey guys. Real quick: I have a 6400 @ 3.2Ghz. If I threw in a 6600, would I easily get to 3.6Ghz then? I shouldn't have to raise voltages if everything else has gone that far already (and stable for since Dec), right?

Question 2 - is the extra 400Mhz on a c2D chip worth $90 extra?

Thanks!

but would the 6600 OC to 3.6 with the same cooling? I don't want to buy it if I'm only gonna make it to 3.4. The 4MB of cache is nice but I'm more concerned about the processor. Will it make it to 3.6Ghz without having to up the voltages? I'm at 1.325v on the core right now on a 6400 @ 3.2Ghz. Thanks!

I have swiftech liquid cooling (only cpu block) and i have to up the vcore to 1.4375 to keep it stable at 3.611MHz the idle temps are at 42-44C and load 55-59C with coretemp or everest using Orthos. I can get my e6600 at 3.4GHz at stock voltages.

GL.

There is no reason to think the E6600 can run at any higher clock speed than your e6400.

You may get lucky and it will.
You may get unlucky and it will run slower.

The Extra Cache is nice, but don't expect higher clocks.

Of course there's a reason to believe it will. Just not a guarantee. If I've taken the computer to a FSB of 400 stable then the potential is there. You're right, though, I could get a "bad" 6600 and get stuck with the same limit. That's why I'm gonna wait for now and see if any mainstream quads come out this year. Thanks.

My primary point is that the E6300-E6800 are designed identically using the same cores and manufacturing process.

The only thing that is different is the defaults at which the chip are set and the speeds at which they are tested.

It seems as most of these chips tend to hit the wall at the same spot in regards to need increased voltage, heat issues, etc.....

So just because the default speed of the E6600 is 200Mhz higher, I would not expect the OC potential to be 200 higher.

One thing for sure, Life is great right now in regards to Price/Performance and its only getting better :>>

Well, the common "wall" on these are around 3.6Ghz. I could probably take my 6400 higher with some tweaking but my top is 410FSB with current voltages. I probably will someday but right now I'm pretty happy. I just have a personal 3D project I'm working on and could use some extra power and had a chance to sell my 6400 at what I paid for it (only a few months old and already broken in and guaranteed to OC well). I decided against that for reasons above.

Couldn't agree more on the price/performance ratio. I might build a couple cheap Micro ATX machines but I can't find any boards that will OC well in that size. Anyone know?
