Hello, I am building a low priced mother in-law rig and was wondering which CPU for under $60.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2.2GHz Socket 754 Processor Model ADA3200AI04BX - OEM - $49.99

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Venice 2.2GHz Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3400DAA4BY - OEM - $50.99

Intel Celeron D 352 Cedar Mill 3.2GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80552352 - Retail - $57

Thanks in advance.

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Venice 2.2GHz Socket 939

She's deserved this AMD processor, for letting you marry her Daughter (your wife) :D

Maybe if you feel a little generous you would overclock to 2.4-2.5Ghz for a little more Juice with out much more heat, Just remember to use AS5 and good Case fan setup :p

The S939 3400+ will slightly outperform the S754 3200+ in many scenarions and simply kill the CeleronD 352 across the board.

939 A64 3400+ it is then.

Thank you all very much!

Go for the 939, its overall your best bet. (I'm 90% sure this system will never be upgraded anyways.)

Since your buying a OEM processor for a cheep CPU cooler go for the ARCTIC COOLING ALPINE64, its $10 cools well enough and is quiet at low speeds. Just shove it all into a Antec or Ever Case and you can build the old battle axe a half decent budget PC. :p

Thanks! I decided to save the extra $$ and went with the 939.

lol.. I purchased the cheapest cooler from newegg but it had many great reviews.

Good choice; as long as you don't overclock, any cooler will be just fine for a K8 single core CPU

Buy a Arctic Silver 5(AS5) and throw away the Paste that comes with the Hesatsink. And Indeed overclock a little(to ~2.5Ghz). Then you'll be awsome :D
