Hey Guys: Putting some finishing touches on my new ~$2K Rig

Wondering if these Logitech X-530

(5.1) surround Sound System are worth it @ 39.99$?

I know that they usually retail at around~$50, but I don't know about what the Matrix mode on the X-540s mean (the X-530s dont have it.)

My sound card (an X-Fi Extrememusic), can it be able to utilize the Matrix mode on the X-540s? something about two channel....

Or is two-channel just for older sound cards, and the X-530s are fine...

This isn't my area of expertise, but I'd suggest a more expensive sound system. You have a good card, now make it scream.

I heard the More expensive systems (X-540~$80), (Z-5300e~$125) sound almost the same or something...I don't really want to spend more money just for the sake of spending more money XD

ANd bout the soundcard, sanji, I found a good deal for it for around 60$, so I don;t have it yet, but unless some better deal, I'm getting it most likely.

EDIT: Will play graphically/sound intensive games,
such as halflife2, Doom3, Quake4, Far Cry, SupCommander,
Oblivion, etc. Will also listen to Music (mostly soundtracks/rock/classical),
and do little-to-nil music editing (In a 12X15) feet room.

If you can hear the difference between different data rates on mp3's then I would say get your self a set of the z-5500's if you can't you most likely will not hear the difference between the expensice 5500 and affordable (I would say cheap but they are seriously some good sounding speakers) z 530's. Hell, even if I could hear the difference, I would still go for the cheaper ones, that is one hell of a deal.

I cant say what the difference is between the 530 and the 540, but as a owner of the X-530's, I can say they sound just fine in small rooms. they are a little bass-y, but you can fine tune that on the sub. the Z5500's are a little overkill unless your in a big room.

Just my measly 10 cents

I hope my reply is not too late. I am the proud owner of a set of X-530's and I can say with joy that they kick! I got em when they were $70, and as long as you position them right, they put out great sound. They may not be as filling as a set of Z-680's were (damn nice speakers!), but they sure do shake my floor. I usually don't turn my volume very high because of all the bass :)

I just got from the pc store.....damn bastards....here in Colombia they charge as much as they want, even if it came through contraband
The x-540 is at 285000 - 30000 pesos (that’s 2300 pesos=1 dollar) that would be 123-130 dollars for the x-540, and the x-530 is 230000 that would be 100 dollars. 8O ....damn bastards  anyway now I am really interested if the x-540 is worth it 8O ? What do you say?

The X-530 is going to be discontinued, though is still a great sound system. It's perfect on the budget-side and is said to have great sound for $50. I'd recommend you jump on em; theyre highly rated (just look at em on NewEgg or TigerDirect) and are probably the best speakers for the price.

Go for the 530's bought a set 3 months ago for $50 on e-bay and like them very much.

Just one note , if your in a room of anysize you will need rca axtension cables. they are fairly short. My desk is only 4' wide and the rear speakers are on the wall four feet from front of desk and the cables just made it. Just FYI

The sound is totally awesome.

Ok. I do have a set of X-530's in my small room and they ROCK!
I have not had a 5.1 sound before now, but I have to say that going from a two speaker setup to 5.1 on these cheaper speakers is awsome!

The only downside to the X-530 set is that there may come a time when you would like more power (although I do not know why..) BUT they do have an awsome sound output...

I have had Windowz and WMP volume at max and the speakers turned up to less than 50% on the dial and I could hear my tunes anywhere in my decently sized house.! (playing Lord of the Rings...)

Another funny story is that when I first got them for the rig in my sig, my mom thought something was in the house, the music was soo loud...

Also, when playing games, watching a movie, or listening to music, these speakers perform EXTREMELY WELL!
I suppose if you put the X-530's next to the X-540's or higher, you could tell a difference between them, but the X-530's should satisfy your sound need (unless you are an audiophile and need the absolute best sound setup...But I'm guessing you aren't)

Sorry for the long post, but in my opinion, I would buy these speakers again. In fact, my friend's brother has the same speakers and he likes them too...

Wait the X-530s are going to be discontinued?

Also, Anyone have or have heard X-540s?

Comparing there sound to X-530s?

1: I believe they are...soon maybe since the X-540 is pretty much the same but with some newer technologies (or improvements anyways)
2: I have heard of teh X-540's, but since I have the X-530's I have noo need to try the 40's....I think there is just some newer components put into the 40's and they may have some more power, but I haven't looked at them yet. Check it out though..
3: I would assume that the 40's would have a bit better sound (maybe a little bit smoother range, but not a HUGE difference), but if you get either one, I think you will be happy.

Check out some reviews on the 40's and check newegg to see what they have to say about them...

The matrix mode takes a 2 channel audio source and attempts to make it 5.1 Similar to dolby surround but not as advanced.

So, It isn't something that is a enhancement over the X-530s if you have a X-Fi Extrememusic, correct?, and I don't really need it. (since the X-Fis are 7-channel s.cards)
