I have an iPaq 5555 with Windows PocketPC Ver. 4.2 and a Sandisk Ultra II
256 mb storage card.
Yesterday for some unknown reason, all the data on the storage card
disappeared. The folders and subfolders are all there, but the data in those
folders is missing.
Is there any way to make the data reappear short of restoring from a backup?

Great advice.

I don't totally agree here. I've used software that scans a drive sector by
sector to rebuild the file/directory structure and recovered data off memory
cards before.
Depending on the value of the data, you can pay people to do this also. They
can't recover latent images like in a desktop HD, but if it's just a
structural problem it's possible.

Please note that he wrote "...the only way _I_ know of...".
Nobody in his right mind would claim to know every solution to every
computer-related problem

Good advice; reminds me to back up my SD card to my harddrive and to CD
again.

I agree completely.

What type of card is it? This seems to be more an issue with MMC/SD cards-
sometimes the technical solution of increasing the card thickness allows the
card to be read (a layer of sellotape on the back of the card)
Try a reset. Try a soft reset first though.
