Forgive me if I am re-asking a question that has already been asked but I am stuck. I just bought a new hard drive (320Gigs) that I plan on using for my new system build. The problem that I’m having is this. When I load Windows Vista Home Premium on the dive it only recognizes around 290 Gigs. I have already reformatted the drive from the manufacture so that's not the problem. I do expect some over head but 30 Gigs is too much. So does Vista have a problem with larger drives, or do I need to check the jumper settings on the drive. I would hate to have to waste that much extra drive space. So any advice would help. Thanks.

There is no drive space wasted and you did not lose anything.

The difference is only because Windows reports "GB" based on a multiplier of 1024, while the hard drive box reports "GB" based on a multiplier of 1000.

To prove it to yourself, right-click on the C: drive and go to properties. Look at the size in bytes. It will be very close to 320,000,000,000.
