I talked to a Samsung CS about the tv's compatibility with the directv hd
pvr. In our conversation, the customer service agent indicated that the
HLN5065W could be upgraded to the next two generations. I was wondering if
anyone else had heard about the upgrade and how much does it cost to
upgrade?

It may be BS, but one local big box senior sales guy told me that
Samsung will introduce a retrofit ATSC/QAM cablecard option for $500
(installed) within 2 months. I wasn't buying a Samsung or anything
that day, actually looking hard at the Mits 525.

I do not know the basis for your "No", but I will challenge it. Samsung has
an upgrade for HLN5065W. Call Samsung and ask to talk to a DLP tech. Been
there and got my DLP upgraded in home. I ordered the parts from Samsung and
they arrranged for the installation. It took approximately two hours. The
HLN5065W may be updated two generations.

Samsung was updating their HLNxxxW sets to HLNxxxW1 sets for a while
this summer. They no longer routinely do so, though you may still be
able to convince them to update one as an exception. Nonetheless, it is
still the same HLN model. There is no upgrade available to change an
HLN set to the next model (ie, HLP).
