I got me a new Athlon 64 X2 4200+ here and its clocking up 4.9 in Vista slowest part of my rig. What it is I wanna do is over clock just enough to punch though the magic 5. At the moment it's running at stock 11x200, at around 27c. Go on, tell me what to do now so I can get me big shiny 5. :D

A new feature of Vista is that it makes you feel inadequate without even having to mention the Jones'!

On a more serious note, just keep overclocking it 'til the temps shoot up - it's at a great temp now. What cooler are you using?

Your total rating will still only be the same as your worst specific rating.

Yer, It's my CPU that's draggin it down

@MesaRectifier Im using a silent boost heatsink and fan.

I got it to 11x220 and it failed to boot, so end of story, I believe thats about the same as a 4400 or is it a 4600 isent it.

Don't know what you are doing wrong, but this is my system:

AMD X2 4200
2 gigs OCZ PC4000 RAM
DFI Lanparty NF4
7800GT EVGA
74 gig Raptor
150 gig Raptor

I got over a 5 rating, think 5.1 or something like that, WITHOUT overclocking.

If you are using the RC versions, that may be the problem, if you are using the release, something is amiss somewhere else in your system.

prob the ram that fell off the lorry is holding you back ;)

at least in overclocking....odd that other people got a higher score then you with pretty much the same rig.

 Just an FYI,your close, like I stated I got a 5.3,however I had to RMA one of the Kingston PC6400 kits about a month ago and it dropped to 4.2 and that is cheap value RAM.(Since then RAM back and 5.3 back also)so unless you have a really low capacity harddrive it's (as stated by others)probably your CPU.

Everything is above 5 except my ram and CPU both of those are 4.9
I have ordered 2 Gig of OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 / 400MHz / Platinum / Dual Channel, (slightly fire damaged) in the hope that it may boost me a tad, do you think that having better memory will push up my CPU score then.

:!: Like I said I,m getting 5.3 on 2GIGs of Kingston VALUERAM.Amount means more than type or brand.Quicker CPU will get you your 5.

Raise your htt to 220 and see what that get you. You may need to lower your htt multiplier to 4 and lower your memory speed as well.

I got 5.2 on my Opty! :D

Until you get your better memory that will overclock better:

change fsb from 200 to 220
Lower your ram speed to 166mhz(+ 20mhz from fsb = 186mhz)
HTT should be fine at x5(220x5=1100mhz - usually stable til around 1200mhz) but try at x4/880mhz if not

If stock temp is 27C then you should have enough overclocking space.

IF this works then up your fsb a bit more til it doesnt boot/temps are too high.

Your memory score will prob come down a notch in Vista atm, but you shouldnt have to stick a divider on your new ram so it will go back up.

I wonder if the motherboard chipset has to do with anything?

e.g. Both person has the same specs and OS
but, the person with a P965 chipset gets a higher WinSAT rating.

I stuck my fsb up to 220, and adjusted my divider thingy so the 400mz mem now runs at 398, dropped my Ht thingy to 4, runs solid at around 30/32c. at 2418mhz is it safe to leave it at this, would you leave it at this? Anyhow I still only get 4.9 in Vista. Is my chip now running like, say, the 4400.
Maybe when I get my new memory I can bust the 5 mark.
