Is it very hard to do? I've never done it (or ANY OC'ing on anything for that matter) before, but I want to. I just ordered a new system(waiting for ups to deliver it today or tomorrow) and got just a cheapy vid card for now, til the dx-10 cards come out and I can get a bad ass dx-9 card cheaper.
I found a x1600xt 256mb (128 bit) card and for maybe 6 months just wanna torture it and then replace. (I realize it's a crap card by todays standards, but it allowed me to get a c2d e6400 2gig pc6400 rig!)
Any help or advice would be much appreciated and followed. There is a great knowledge base on this site here, and am glad I found it!!
Just download ATI Tool (not ati tray tool)
Then, you are going to increment gpu speed in 5mhz steps search for errors. The do the same with the memory.
It's the easiest way.
OK. I get that from ATI's website then? And I want to do each seperately then? -Meaning, crank up gpu speed to a certain point, then start messing with ram speeds on the card, or would I need to do both in equal number of steps?
Also, how do I know what is going to be safe speeds on those, or is it mentioned with/in the download?
First GPU and then memory. It doesn't has to be with equal number of steps. It will run assync no problem. Just keep an eye on those temps.
If there is reported an artifact, back down in 5mhz steps also.
EDIT- you can download ATI Tray Tool also, but it has more options. Try it if you want.
PS. When you reach the limits, you'll know it Just beware of temps above 85/90ÂșC
One more thing. I believe that with ATI TOOL and ATI TRAY TOOL you will need to disable the 'ATI Hotkey Poller' Service in catalyst
OK got it! That doesn't sound too hard at all! I wonder about the fan on the card itself, but maybe I can rig some case fan up to help if it get that bad. It's only gotta last a little while, so this will be fun!!!
