me and my friend just recently bought a new controller box for our cnc machine, and seeing as I have never used a parallel port in my life for printers or anything, i dont know how to set one up to run our cnc controller from it, and i know it is not a driver issue, it just seems that the port isnt even responding when we plug in the controller box or when we open mach 3(a milling program) a little help would be greatly appriciated.
Is the port by any chance disabled in BIOS? I know that with all my machines I disable the LPT port (parallel port) to free up an IRQ. Maybe the board came with it turned off? Or someone turned it off?
Have you tried changing the port protocol? Std, bi-directional, ecp
The std port does not provide 2-way communication. Just a way to stop the flow of data. The others are 2-way communications (IEEE1284). The std and 2-way do not use the same cable. But the 2way (IEEE1284) is backwards compatable.
