Okay I have two computers wired to a gaming router DGL-4100. How do I set it up to be able to play BF2 locally (LAN).

As i remember from coutner-strike. You create a gameserver with one of the computer and get the local ip address of that server (or computer by doing a ipconfig). Than you have the other person go into the game and join the lan server by typing in your local ip address.

Most routers ip address start with a 192.168.x.x

I do not play BF2 so I am not sure how to do it. But I can tell you this, make sure that your router is forwarding on the port that the game uses.

This only matters if you are playing across the WAN. The OP said LAN only.
