PXE-E51 error on 3com cards

I have a RIS sever setup in a subnet environment. I can successfully
connect to the RIS server using PXE on the 10/100 NIC on the
motherboard of a Dell Optiplex 170L.

I cannot connect to the RIS server using PXE on a 3com 3C905CX-TX-M,
with the latest ROM, from any other PC in the environment. I am also
not able to connect with an onboard Broadcom NIC from a Dell Dimension
using PXE.

The error message I receive is: PXE-E51 No DHCP or proxy DHCP offers
were received.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi,

I'm not clear on: Some clients work on a particular subnet and not others?

Are all clients on the same subnet? If not, you have helper addresses in
the router that point to the RIS server and DHCP Server?
Is the RIS server multihomed or bound with more than one IP?
Does a lease appear in the DHCP scope for the failed RIS client? Clear the
leases and try again to verify.
On the RIS server, Start>Run>RISETUP -CHECK>OK
2003 or 2000 Server?
Are the clients prestaged?
Have you checked the box "Respond to client computers requesting service"?
Is the RIS server also serving DHCP?

I am having Similar Problem with Optiplex G110. But it
seems problem is with the cisco switches that have
spannning tree enabled.

There are two solutions to this problem.

First solution
Introduce a small (4 Port) HUB between the machine and the
network. It will work. All the desktops seems to work fine
with a 3com HUB (not switch)

Second Solution
Enable fast Port and set the speed of the port to 10/100
full duplex from auto.

Also, try starting the RIS and as the client is attempting to get a dhcp
reply, hit pause on your keyboard. Pause for 15 or 20 seconds and hit Enter
to resume. Sometimes that helps.

Tried the simplest fix first. The pause key fix is working for now.
