ok im probably gonna sound like total retard but heres the deal;

i currently have this system;
Main board- p4v800d-x (dual pci-e x4 +agp)
Ram- 1.2gb
Graphics- 6600gt (agp)
and a generic 300 watt psu

I was looking for an upgrade that would give me a boost in *umph* untill i can afford the jump to proper pci-e (new main board ram, processor etc)

i was looking at a 8800gts 320mb version which would also give me direct x 10 when i can afford to upgrde, or an x1950xt, or could tell me whether an 8800gts would even run in x4 mode

If someone could suggest the best option, and possibly a power supply that that would support either card i would great appreciate it.

Patrick.

First of all you cant get a 8800GTS on AGP. Second of all your PSU is not enough and third your system would bottleneck it.

For AGp there is the x1950pro which is very good price/performance. In the near futur the x1900XT will be released on AGP. You would need a better PSU around 450W with enough amperage on 12v rail. FPS offer good quality, cheap PSUs.

I know there isnt an agp 8800gts , that wasnt my question, my question was would it be able to run in a pcie x16 slot running at x4 speed, even at lower performance untill i am able to upgrade my mtoherboard, cpu and ram at a later date.

Also i have recently found a motherbaord from asus called the P4VM890
which may offer a way to get full x16 speed with my existing configuration.

Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
