I was hoping someone could help me out here. I have a production RIS server
on WIN2K which has about 25 client images (win2k, winxp) on it. I want to
backup all of the images, wipe the server, install WIN2K3 and RIS and restore
the images.

My question is can this be done? If so, is there anything else that needs
done? If not, aside from an in-place type upgrade, how can this be
accomplished?

This is fairly painless.

Make a base image (cd-based image) on the 2003 box through setting up RIS.
Test and make sure this one image works.

Stop RIS service (BINL).

Restore images, including any custom .osc menu files.

Start Services.
