Dear All,
We are seeking your support and recommendation for the best configuration
and implementation of the following system. I am looking forward to
receiving your response to the main two questions mentioned in the bottom of
the page.
We are currently on the process of the constructing new Security Access
Control System. The system shall be operational for 24/7. The system will
be configured to have two Master Computer systems that manage and control 27
regional sites (with Masters 39 sites). All master and regional sites will be
configured with redundant servers.
The system will be structured and configured to provide the follow main
availability and redundancy features:
• The overall System availability shall be 99.99 %. High availability and
fail over capability shall be provided for system servers that will host the
database and software applications.
• System servers’ availability includes the automatic fail over of the
primary system to standby system ensuring data availability.
• All system hardware and communication equipment shall be redundant
including the servers.
o Failure of any one redundant part shall not interrupt the system functions
o Failure of any one redundant part shall not allow any loss of data.
o All redundant equipment shall be continuously monitored to determine
whether it is operating normally. A failure of redundant equipment shall be
reported.
o It shall be possible to switch the status of any redundant module (back-up
to device) both automatically and manually.
o Automatic fail over to back-up equipment shall take place on detection of
a critical error. Fail over time shall not exceed 30 sec and fail over shall
be done automatically.
o An automatic or manual switch over shall be reported
o Switch over shall have no effect on system operation or data capture
Currently, we are planning to have Microsoft products for the operating
system and the database for this system (Windows 2003 Server and Windows SQL
Sever 2000). However, we are not sure about the edition that we should
select that will provide all the above mentioned features.
Q1 Could you please provide me with the recommended latest Microsoft
Operating System EDITION and Microsoft SQL Server EDITION that will support
and satisfy the above mentioned requirement? And WHY?
Q2 Could you please provide me with the best recommended redundancy
configuration that will support and satisfy the above mentioned requirements?
And WHY?
I will highly appreciate your response at your earliest.
