Hi, I have installed and configured RIS on our 2003 AD domain, we have quite
a few remote offices without servers in i am wondering if it would be
possible to somehow change the .sif file to locate the installation files
from either another partition on the client or from CD/DVD ..there is quite a
few places in the sif file that looks like it needs to be changed eg "orisrc"
"setupsourcedevice" and "installfilespath" .. has anyone actually done this
or could you help me out please :)

many thanks,

Mike

Unfortunately RIS was not designed to be used that way. You may want
to examine using WinPE (could be via PXE if you want) instead of RIS -
as it will give you the flexibility of running winnt32 or an imaging
utility from wherever you need.

Hi Mike,

if you wish to install from CD/DVD if locally available create and
Unattend.txt file rename to Winnt.sif and then use that file for an install.
Open up the Support/Deploy folder on the Windows 2000 CD for more details on
the answer file. Note howerver, that there some inherent security issues
with the answer file such as administrator password in clear text.

Note, however, as pointed out elsewhere that RIS is not that flexible.
