Apologies if this is in the wrong section but since it was graphics orientated I thought I'd try here first.
I have a laptop with a 7600Go GPU, and want to output to my TV in the living room for playing Emulators and films. Simple enough in theory...
The laptop has a native res of 1280x800 and a DVI out, the TV has a native res of 1366x768 but can only "officially" accept 1024x768 via the VGA port (I can get around this with a normal PC base unit by creating a custom resolution in powerstrip.)
What I would like to know is: Is there a way to have my laptop ouput 1366x768 as a secondary display but keep its native res for the laptop panel? I have lowered the laptop screen res to 1024 to match the max normal input of the TV so I just have a duplicate of the lappy screen but when I launch a game the TV goes blank and the game only appears on the laptop. Am I doing something fundementally wrong?
I am not sure about getting your resolution set properly, as I would like to know that also, however if you want to play a game configure the screen to only display on the TV and then the game will come up correctly.
1. Are you using the nVidia Display Configuration panel to set this up?
2. Do you want the two displays active at the differnet resolutions at the same time?
I have a HTPC setup with dual screen (VGA and 720p) and can get the screens independently configured and switch between them or get the LCD to display video overlays have not been able to have 'clone' displays at different resolutions.
Your game is probably opening on the primary display, using either DirectX or Open GL. If you make the TV your primary display (use your nVidia screen config utility to do this), then the game should open there. Using this, you should also be able to setup the two screens at different resolutions so that your laptop screen is an extended desktop for your main (TV) screen.
