I recently hooked up a HDTV cable box to my sony wega tv.It is connected
via components on video 4.I get a great picture through the coaxial
connection but when I switch the tv to video4 for HDTV I get what looks like
a scrambled picture.Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

In the cable box menu try changing the output format of the component
output. You should have a choice between 1080i, 720p, 480i, and maybe 480p.
See if any of those will work.

If that doesn't fix it then another thing to try would be hooking up your
DVD player via component cables to video4 in order to double-check that the
video4 input itself is working properly.

On my Sony Wega TV, of the 7 possible connections, three can be used for
HDTV: a DVI HDTV in (Video 7), and two component inputs (Video 5 & 6). The
others have S-video and RCA video inputs. I run component cables from my
HDTV box into Video 5, which I have re-labeled "Cable Box". When I choose
the Video 5/Cable Box input using the TV/Video button, I get the HDTV
picture from the box.

If your cable box is de-scrambling the signal as it should and outputting
it, unscrambled, to the component outputs, as it should, then you should see
the HDTV picture unscrambled on your set. Are you sure the component cables
are hooked up correctly? If so, then, if I were you, I would call the cable
company for support on this one. They can probably find the problem for you
pretty quickly.
